IR'Leary
Feb. 2, 2010- (The views expressed in this blog are the views of Bryan Benway, and may not be the views of the Laredo Bucks organization). Oh Hi Friends. Good Tuesday to you all out there in blog land. There is some Bucks injury news to report today and most of it's not good.
The Bucks just announced that Mark O'Leary has been placed on the 14-day IR retroactive to Jan. 29th against Texas. I don't know how I missed the injury during the game (I wasn't the only one as pretty much everyone in the press box didn't see it). O'Leary is out with a lower-body injury and there is no real time table for his return. I'm going to guess that he may be out for three weeks or maybe longer. That is of course not an official medical word just my opinion. If you need your injury assesed just e-mail me at benway@laredobucks.com and i'll be sure to check it out in my van on the side of the road for $50. You will need to sign a waiver of course because like I said I have no medical knowledge at all.
We know a bit more about Igor Agarunov's injury today than we did on Sunday and it's not good for this week. The enigma will not play this week at all but could be ready as early as next Tuesday's Kid's Day game here at the LEC but a more likely comeback date is next weekend. I spoke to Igor today during practice and he said he is still feeling the effects of the injury that he suffered Saturday night. He did not look or sound that good today and he went home a bit early today. If he's up to it I may have the enigma in the press box doing color a bit this week but I don't want to further hinder his recovery.
If you remember back to Saturday's game I had Evan Schwabe on the air during the first intermission and he told me that he was going to see the doctor Monday and was hoping for good news. Well he received good news and because of that was on the ice skating during practice today. He was in his track suit and red baseball cap but he was on the ice skating around a bit. He did not participate in drills but it's a start. Schwabe is probably still a little ways from coming back but he should get back on the ice sooner than expected and that's a good thing.
As i'm sure you all can guess El Presidente Coach Rosco is burning up the phone lines trying to get a player or two in here for the weekend to help out. I've seen the list of some of the players that he is contacting and they could fill a role pretty well for a week or so. It's too bad we couldn't pursuade Serge Dube to come out of retirement for a week or so to help out.
Practice lasted a little over an hour today as the Bucks were on the ice for the first time since Sunday's 4-3 loss in Odessa. Today's practice was just to get the legs back under them and go over some passing and other things.
I want to talk about Sunday's game in Odessa real quick. I felt, as did Rosco, that the Bucks outplayed the Jackalopes for most of the game but were hindered by taking penalties at not so good times. The Bucks have lost three one-goal games to Odessa this season and beat them 6-1. If the two teams meet in the playoffs again it will be another classic.
There was a scoring change in Sunday's game in Odessa. The Bucks second goal was changed back to Jarred Mohr today. They originally gave it to Mohr but changed it to Jeff Bes. After looking at the tape it was clear that Mohr should have been credited with the goal and now is.
I want to thank an Odessa fan for throwing a Jackalopes hat at me in the press box Sunday. I kept it and it's now used to clean my kitchen sink so i'm getting some good use out of it.
The Bucks are a couple of pieces short of having a team that can make a deep playoff run. I believe they need another solid defenseman and two more scoring forwards. Will that happen? I'm not sure.
If you have not heard about the specials for this week here they are. EVERY FAN who attends Thursday's game will get TWO FREE Bucks dollar menu items of their choice. Please stop by the ticketing table to pick up your tickets for that.
Here's a couple of events to keep in mind as the week progresses.
The Bucks Booster Club will hold a silent auction during the Valentines Day game. The items up for auction are heart shaped ceramic plates that each Bucks player decorated. So bring some extra cash on Valentines day to bid on that.
That's all for today. Enjoy your day. I'll be back to update you more tomorrow.
Until next time,
It will be a hot one in the old town tonight!
GO BUCKS GO!
