Reality Show TV Star
June 25, 2009- (The Views of this blog are the views of Bryan Benway, and may not be the views of the Laredo Bucks organization). Oh Hi Friends. Thanks for checking in on this hot Thursday afternoon, I hope you all are having a good week. The Bucks are again making some off season roster moves.
I'm sure you all have heard that the Bucks signed Drew Kivell yesterday, and the Big Cheese could not be happier.
El Presidente Coach Rosco has said several times already that he has been after Kivell for the last five years, and he finally decided to leave school to come down here and play.
All of the words that people use to describe Kivell are "big, tough, hard-hitter, hard-nosed, not afraid to mix it up", etc. The consensus is that Drew Kivell is a Steve Simoes type player, and the consensus also is that is what the Bucks were missing last season big time.
One thing that is pretty cool about Drew Kivell is that he was a finalist on the CBC sports reality show "Making the Cut", which is very popular is Canada. I was going to make the headline for yesterday's press release "Bucks Sign Reality TV Star", which would have been 100% correct, but I decided against it.
If you are keeping track that makes four players signed so far, three of them rookies, and three of them defense. As Rosco will tell you he is building from the defense out this year. He, as did a lot of people close to the team, felt that the defense was not as strong as it was in years past, for whatever reason. But that is certainly something that he is trying to improve on for '09-10.
Moving on now..
The second "Behind the Bench" interview with Coach will be up on the blog tomorrow. This interview will focus on the Bucks offseason signings so far, and he will talk about Matt McKeown, Drew Kivell, Cody Hamilton, and Mike Mullen (who is not signed yet, but is getting there). Coach also talks about his former roomate Mario Lemieux, and how he felt watching him hoist the Stanley Cup as the owner of the Penguins.
Check it out tomorrow.
Just a quick note about the blog, i'll be leaving for vaction on Saturday morning and won't be back in the 956 until July 12th. Don't worry, I will blog once or twice while i'm home in beautiful Jay, New York. So be sure to watch out for that in the next two weeks.
Again, don't forget to listen to Coach Rosco's "Behind the Bench" interview tomorrow.
Remember your deadline to sign up for a FREE, EXCLUSIVE BUCKS Polo is Tuesday (June 30). Call 718-BUCK (2825).
As always, i'll close the blog by quoting the great Bob Barker, "help control the pet population, have your pets spayed or neutered."
Until next time,
It will be a hot one in the old town tonight!
GO BUCKS GO!
